Job Summary
The Epic Research Analyst is responsible for the implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of Epic Research functionality across clinical and billing workflows. This role ensures compliant and efficient management of clinical research studies, accurate charge capture, research billing compliance, and seamless integration with clinical care and revenue cycle systems.
The analyst partners closely with research administration, clinical teams, finance, compliance, and IT to support the full lifecycle of clinical trials within Epic.
Key Responsibilities
Epic Research Configuration & Support

Build, configure, test, and maintain Epic Research modules, including study calendars, research protocols, and subject workflows

Support integration with Epic clinical modules (Orders, Cadence, Prelude, Beaker, etc.)

Configure research-related clinical documentation and workflows

Troubleshoot system issues and provide end-user support
Research Billing & Revenue Cycle

Configure and maintain Research Billing (RSH) functionality to ensure accurate charge segregation

Support research charge review, routing, and billing compliance
-
Partner with Revenue Cycle teams to resolve billing discrepancies

Ensure compliance with CMS, NIH, and institutional research billing regulations
Implementation & Optimization

Participate in Epic upgrades, enhancements, and new research study builds

Lead or support Epic Research implementations and optimizations
-
Develop workflows that align clinical care, research operations, and billing

Perform unit, integrated, and user acceptance testing
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

Serve as a liaison between research administration, clinical teams, billing, and IT
-
Gather and translate business requirements into Epic solutions
-
Provide training and education for research coordinators, clinicians, and billing staff

Support research governance and compliance initiatives
Documentation & Reporting

Create and maintain system documentation, workflows, and training materials
-
Assist with reporting and data validation related to research studies and billing
-
Support audits and compliance reviews related to research billing
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Experience with Epic Research or Epic Revenue Cycle modules

Strong understanding of clinical research workflows and research billing compliance
-
Experience supporting clinical or billing systems in a healthcare environment

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications

Epic Research Certification (required or obtained within a defined timeframe)

Experience with Epic Research Billing (RSH)

Knowledge of clinical trial operations and regulatory requirements

Experience working with research coordinators, sponsors, and compliance teams

Prior Epic implementation or upgrade experience
